Honestly I was expecting the S60/V60 to win but this is well deserved, I hope to drive one soon. The comments on social media are salty AF though, people don’t want to accept “A Fancy Hyundai” “Cheap Korean crap” with “no sales” wins car of the year and how “Hyundai paid MT for the award” and all that crap. I think their heads would have literally exploded if they had given it to the Kia Stinger last year instead of the Giulia. I guess everyone will be happy if the current 3 series, which has not been updated since 2016 won the award. Usual comments on Unreliability, bad welds and death wobbles on the Jeep, The comments seem to be mostly positive for the Ram 1500 except from some “Chevy4lyf” “Ford4lyf” mouth breathers.

Honestly think they got all of these right. The G70 seems to get everything right, the Ram uses a new mild hybrid system, and the Wrangler makes a winning formula incrementally better.

Remove the doors, and the exposed hinges will remind you how much more special your Jeep is than your neighbor’s anonymous lozenge every time you climb inside.

If I needed a Family sedan, the Genesis would be up there on my list. They have been quietly becoming quite good and fairly attractive visually, to me at least.

I don’t have an issue with any of the choices here, Wrangler is probably the most iffy, but still a worthy selection.
That made me think about what might be the most incrementally- improved vehicles out there - it has to be the Wrangler and 911, right? Anything else?

I started recommending Genesis models to people last year especially since used Hyundai Genesis V 6 examples started coming up for real cheap . They are really good value for money. I test drove the G80/G80 S port earlier this year and was impressed but wish they’d lose some weight and improve steering because right now my preference is a proper sports sedan, not just a fast family car which is why I am excited for the G70 . Which might change in the future. But t hey are always close to the top of mind when it comes to next car.

I don’t trust Motor Trend’s COTY. It always looked like whomever was dropping the most money on ads was going to win.
Car and Driver’s 10 Best seemed more legitimate to me, because they spelled out the criteria for it.

That article is the first I’ve seen saying a 0-60 time for the 2.0T, and it seems a bit... slow? As they note it’s pretty far off the pace of the BMW and Mercedes competitors. But the overall equipment on it may make up for that since it’d still be a great DD.

At some point, the pool of “cars” is going to dwindle and the pickings will be easy. Sedans have always seemed archaic to me on a basic level — a voluntary waste of cargo space without the smaller size benefits of a coupe. Rather than the best of both worlds, it’s usually the worst.
But I guarantee all the butthurt is coming from BMW fanbois who are just mad they didn’t win with the 1- 2- 3- 4- 5- or 6-series, whatever the hell those numbers even mean now.
Speaking of numbers, how did they get a 7-liter engine in that thing?!

From what I remember r eading back then, the V6 sport model particularly was really good. Can’t comment on the rest

Apparently they got most of the first year problems sorted and the new ones are decently reliable (at least compared to their peer group). I test drove one for kicks a month ago and really liked it. Considering the CPO warranty is 7 years and 100k miles, i may consider one.

Oh they absolutely did. I believe there were a number of software related recalls in the first year.

Isn’t the MT ___ of the year always something new, thus something like a not-new 3 series would not be eligible?

Yes, that’s the point . I was just mocking those people who think a BMW is still the Ultimate Driving Machine and shit on everything else.

I’d say that the Ram deserved it for sure. I’ve driven all of the pickups from the last few years, and the Ram is consistently the most comfortable and the nicest overall to drive.

I like my BMW but I can’t see myself buying a new one until they bring back the steering feel and add Android Auto.

Perhaps they’ll fix th e steering with the G20 but you’re out of luck for AA because they have deemed only cool , sophisticated, well- off people buy both BMW and Apple products and clearly we are not one of them.
In any case I have been reading really good reviews about the G20, and if they bring the G21 Wagon over in 2019, a CPO would be next car and even if not, I would consider a G20 330i.
